If you want to fall in complete wedding-design lust, look no further than the Lars von Trier film Melancholia. The story line may be peculiar but the intense beauty and crazy fabulous wedding celebration {umm, KD's magnif attire alone} will overshadow any weirdness.
My favorite scene was when the wedding party and guests set sky lanterns into the night sky. Watch below to experience the maaaagic ;) {Hit the 1min mark if you want to get to it already}:
Aren't the lanterns just lovely?! I'm kind of wanting some just for our next patio party ... too bad I just read it's illegal in most parts of Germany! Maybe I should just make plans to experience the Thai Lanna Festival where countless lanterns are lit:
What do you think? Would you include sky lanterns in your wedding festivities?

Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteLove the lanterns, I had no idea they were illegal in Germany! As far as the road trip, sounds like a blast. I remember looking up markets before we went to Copenhagen, however we never went to any. For Sweden, I have a wholesaler that I just started working with, he goes to auctions and markets all over Sweden. I can ask him if he has any suggestions for markets. Hope to meet you in May and hope this weather changes for the best again soon! Thanks, Andrea
I love them! However, I do worry about their impact on the environment and if I ever do decide to use them, I'd want them to be biodegradable.
ReplyDeleteCC: That would be *fabulous*!! I'd love to hear any suggestions! :)
ReplyDeleteShang: Absolutely agree and glad to hear your concern - so many people would never even give it a thought. Good for you. :)
I recently went to a wedding where lanterns just like these had been attached to the supports of the marquee. With the dim lighting and nighttime setting it really did make a for a lovely and romantic touch.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a beautiful idea! I remember seeing an image of sky lanterns on Pinterest and I instantly fell in love! And I totally appreciate the environmentally friendly comment by Shang!
ReplyDeleteCould it be done with seed embedded paper? Then you could literally "spread the love," or "plant the seeds of love!" ... too much? sometimes I get a bit cheesy. ;)

Jen and Jess: What a fabulous idea! I love it - darling!! :)
ReplyDeleteps. Loving your blog, too!
I agree with what's already been said. Definitely a beautiful idea but I'd be very concerned about the impacts on wildlife than the "environment" as a whole. Sure, it looks beautiful and would be an incredible end to an incredible day... especially being a photographer! However, I could see birds, dogs, cats, ducks, geese, really anything that walks or swims getting tangled up in these things. A bio degradable lantern would be cool but it wouldn't take long wrapped up around a bird to kill it. Just a thought. -Jayson and Rachael
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! would be a beautiful way to finish off the evening.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading some of the comments I looked into eco-lanterns. Don't worry, they are available and don't cost much more :)
Jayson - Agreed, I do hope people use caution if they decide to use these. :)
