Vintage Finds: Wedding Cake Toppers {+ 1 FOR SALE!}

There is something about vintage cake toppers that just make me swooooon. Maybe it's the history behind them and knowing that the topper was once used in someone else's beautiful day way back when. The fact that it holds an untold story of love ... or maybe it's just the incredible attention to detail ... the cute-as-pie expressions on the faces and the fact that you just can't find toppers like they used to make.

I recently came across the topper below while antiquing along the Coast and was instantly smitten. And it was in such great condition, I just had to add it to my collection of vintage wares in the hopes that it could soon be included in a special CB reader's big day! ;o) Scroll down for the details ...

This cake topper is thought to date back to the 1950s/60s and its charm would add so much character to any wedding cake. The plastic base features a beautiful lace-like design with a sweet heart border along the very bottom and the most darling winged cherubs tooting horns in celebration as you can see in the detail shot above. The groom is outfitted in a classic tux and dapper top hat while the bride is wearing a traditional wedding gown. What I love most about the bride and groom is that they're looking at each other with such adoration - how cute is that?! There are fabric millinery flowers on either side of the bride and groom as well as on top of the "wedding" bell and in the top middle of the heart in the back. All of the flowers and netting/tulle are in terrific condition with no tears or spotting. The plastic bell and base portion have aged slightly in color which is evident in the photos. Also, there is a teensy tiny crack in the back portion of the plastic stand - it isn't noticeable unless you're inspecting it with extreme diligence. Overall, a great vintage addition to any wedding! I love weddings that think outside the box and using this Scottie as a topper would be a great example of that! This adorably weathered Scottie Dog figurine would be the perfect topper for any dog enthusiast, especially Scottie owners! It would also be great to include on a Groom's Cake! I can already imagine it perched atop the cake above with simple white flowers surrounding the Scottie! According to my research, this Scottie is made of Syroco wood and dates back to the 1920s-1930s. He would also make a great accessory to include as home decor after the wedding!
