Venue: Oak Alley

May 27, 2009

Hope you all had great weekend! We spent our time in and around New Orleans and my favorite highlight was driving out to Vacherie to visit Oak Alley Plantation. As we drove around the bend and the majestic lines of Live Oaks came into view, I think I let out an audible sigh.

Weddings are often held under the 300-year old canopy of Live Oaks and receptions can be held inside the Greek Revival antebellum mansion or on the lush grounds surrounding the house. I can't even imagine how magical such an event would be!

The lawns behind the house are beautifully framed by crape myrtles, magnolias and azaleas. Perfect for a cocktail tent or an afternoon game of croquet for guests.
Even the sugar cane fields were picturesque! I love that this venue has such a great variety of photo ops for bridal and couple portraits - the trees, the fields, the house, the veranda, the beautiful decor inside ... Seriously, a dream come true!

  1. What a lovely estate! Beautiful lanterns from a few trees for the dinner, oh and I can just imagine the bride riding on a white horse or pulled by a horse and buggy!!! Endless possibilities.

  4. Katee Grace: LOVE the idea of lanterns hanging from the trees!!! And the white horse -- what a fairy tale! I also love the idea of having dripping candles in abundance :o)

Clare: I absolutely agree! The only one I've been to that has an equal wow factor {imho} is Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in SC. {magnoliaplantation.com} Goooooorgeous!

  5. This plantation is just as amazing (if not more) in person! My cousin recently had her reception there, and it was nothing short of majestic.

I'm having my reception in Southern Oaks Plantation in New Orleans. Did you make it out there yet?
It has the same idea, but also offers a horse and carriage/New Orleans Brass band/Fireworks options.
Check it out if you love plantations!
