{gorgeous secretary via Material Girls}

I've slowly been adding antique pieces to our home over the past few years and have been wanting an oak secretary like the one above for ages. What a cheerful and inspiring space for working on wedding calligraphy or just writing notes to friends (ok, or just reading fave blogs!).

Speaking of calligraphy, I'd like to take a second and give a big blog hug to all the sweet bloggers who gave SD Calligraphy a mention in the past week! It's really touching and it makes me so happy to be a part of a niche community that is so supportive of one another! Merci! And, if you happened to mention SDC on your blog and I missed it, please let me know -- I'll make sure to add your link! :o)

In other news, our recent trip to NOLA was again divine. We stayed on St. Charles in the Garden District and spent a full day walking up and down Magazine Street. We spent a good bit of time in the showroom of Leontine Linens - a must if you're a monogram fanatic! Then, we headed over to the French Quarter for some beignets and more shopping and more architecture-admiring! Here's just a glimpse:

Above: The BEST ice cream we've ever had ... The Creole Creamery. Fresh, home-made + incredibly unique flavors.

Have any tips for where to go, see, eat, etc. in New Orleans for our next visit? Please leave a comment ... we're heading back in early February and would love some fun insider tips! :o)

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Hi. I lived in N.O. for 4 yrs. You must try Camelia Grill. It's uptown on the end of the streetcar line on Carrolton, just down the street from Tulane. You eat right at the counter and can watch them warm up your slice of pecan pie right on the griddle. A high class diner!

  2. I lived just outside of New Orleans my whole life (24 years) until about a year ago, when I moved to South Florida to get another degree and also to be with my fiance. I plan to get married in New Orleans in 2011 after nursing school, and I can't wait!

    There are SO many places to see and things to do! Since you'll be there in Feb, you will probably be able to catch a couple of parades in metairie for Mardi Gras. You MUST eat some King Cake and ask a local about it's history!
    And if you haven't already checked out the night life- head to the famous cats meow (in the quarter) and sing a couple of karaoke hits!

  4. Hi, I always enjoy reading your posts about your trips to New Orleans. I moved to New Orleans about a year and a half ago to attend Tulane Law School. My Fiance and I live Uptown right St. Charles Magazine and absolutely love it. We are planning our French Quarter wedding for December 19, 2009 and can't wait to share New Orleans with all of our friends and family. So many people only think of the French Quarter when they visit, but there are so many great things to do and see uptown. Also, do you live in Mississippi? I am from the MS gulf coast and loved your wedding photos at Mary Mahoney's. Anyways, on to recs for New Orleans...
    La Crepe Nanou is a wonderful little french restaurant basically right across the street from Creole Creamery (I too love that place).
    Jacque Imo's is also great. You can enjoy a phenomenal meal in a really casual atmosphere.
    There are just so many great places that you really can't go wrong.

  6. Napoleon House is a must-stop for a Pimm's Cup and a muffaleta :)

    My fiance and I went to New Orleans last year so we managed to get to a lot of great restaurants, but that was one of our favorites. And Audobon Park is gorgeous.

  8. I am in love with that secretary! I would keep it filled with lovely ribbons and stationary for all of those hand-written notes. Who am I kidding! More likely overflowing with random stuff and my laptop piled on top.

  10. On Magazine: Scriptura has amazing stationary and is owned by two delightful sisters! You might also enjoy Hazelnut for gifts. Probst has fine fabrics and some furniture. Juliet also has some great decor and home textiles. Wedding Belles is also a lovely shop for the bride-to-be. Mimi probably has the best high-end collection for wedding gowns and other fashion. And for the boudoir--House of Lounge.

    For food-Jacques Imos on Oak Street is funky, fun and delicious. Be prepared to wait and be well-fed!
