Decision 2008, my style

My dear readers,

I started this blog over a year ago with the hopes of fine-tuning my personal wedding style. When I first began blogging, I couldn't tell you the difference between peonies and dahlias. (No, seriously.) And if you had mentioned chiavari, I probably would have thought you were speaking French.

A lot has changed since then. And I owe you, my readers, a much overdue and heartfelt thank you! I turned to you with so many of my wedding-induced dilemmas and questions and you never failed in giving me great advice, encouragement and inspiration. I so sincerely appreciate your support. Thank you. :o)

I turn to you once again, with another question that I hope you'll answer with your consistent enthusiasm and interest. Now that my wedding has come and gone, I feel like I'm overflowing with a wealth of wedding-planning knowledge that I've accumulated over the past year. Obviously, this doesn't make me a leading authority on weddings and certainly doesn't mean I can be a fabulous wedding planner just because I enjoyed planning my own. But I do feel like I could help other brides by sharing what I've learned.

So I've been thinking about writing a book ... a sort of guide to finding your own classic wedding style. A guide that steers you away from fleeting trends and instead brings you back to basics that will help to create a refined and tailored event, all without breaking the bank. Brimming with tricks of the trade, tips, suggestions and insider perspectives.

I haven't looked into the logistics very thoroughly yet and wouldn't know the first step in getting published but I thought before I picked up the pen and started outlining, I'd see what you thought.

Would you be interested in reading such a guide or would I be wasting my time? Please be honest! As always, I strongly value your input.

Cheers,
Sarah

p.s. This in no way indicates the end of blogging for me ... Just a possible new avenue.

  2. I say go for it. The only thing I would be careful of is making sure yours is something very different from the plethora of wedding books already out there. Good luck!

  4. Sarah,

I think you have a certain warmth to your voice, a way to connect with people, and I think if you can infuse that tone into your back things will go well. I also think that you have the advantage of being a "real bride", and that can help you in the end. I think if you used real weddings you would have something different to say.

  7. As long as it doesn't come across as a constant commercial for various preferred vendors, I think it would be great.

  8. I totally agree with Jenna, about the warmth of your 'voice'. That is, I think, the X factor for the success in feeling and sharing the ideal mood for being in contact with readers!!!!

  9. Please do it! The thing i like about your blog is that you do a great job of mixing in personal style and touches to the wedding planning process so that you make it your own instead of just jumping on the wedding planning bandwagon... I would love to see that put into a book.

  11. I would definitely read it. You most certainly succeeded in going back to basics and planning a wedding that was graceful, personal, classic without being "traditional." You've helped me with my own wedding planning a great deal. Best of luck.

  14. I think this is an amazing idea!!! I love that your blog and wedding were all about classic, simple, and timeless details. You have a great way of connecting to your readers and provided so much inspiration for my own wedding :) You definitely need to do this :)

  16. You've already got your platform and a sizable following (the first thing publishers look for once a book proposal makes its way across the desk ). Seriously look into a class in writing a book proposal. I don't know what city you're in but classes and specialists in finding publishers are in every city . . .
A friend of mine (wedding planner) wrote a proposal and got her book published before it was even finished. Judging the looks of your site, you have a good shot at publication provided you find hook that makes your body of work a niche book.

  17. You could do that, or save all of your posts and launch a professional blog w/a readers guide and everything like a book has. I would definitely read it if your made a book!

  18. Good for you! I say, do it! I have to admit I've only purchased one "bridal" book because I've been so into the blog world, but I think you would do an amazing job! Keep us posted.

  19. If all things wedding fills you with bliss.. I say absolutely, GO FOR IT. Your blog, which is wonderful by the way, is your free labor of love.. so why not turn that passion into something more. Best of luck Hun!

  20. Do it! We ask for advice when we already know what the answer is...you've been inspired to do this, now don't be afraid, just commit & do it.

I say go for it, but I would suggest doing A LOT of research at the book stores...put A LOT of thought into tapping into a niche that hasn't been tapped yet. There's a lot of bridal glut out there...setting yourself apart from that is key I think. LOVE THE BLOG!
