The long and short of it

Did I mention my dress is tea-length? It seems everyone has a different idea of what tea-length means (all of these dresses shown were described as such) but mine is closest to the Elie Saab sweet frock Marcia Cross had on last night at the Emmys:

{found on In Style}

The style is extremely similar to mine (just add some Alencon lace and beading and a delicate little lace bolero jacket) which makes me excited because I thought Marcia was the belle of the ball last night! So timeless.

I'm not sure why but the general reaction upon hearing that my wedding dress doesn't reach the floor (and thus lacks any sort of train) is a mix of surprise and shock ... followed by speechlessness.

Which brings me to my question for you:
Is it really that rare to wear a tea-length dress to your wedding?

  1. during my wedding i kept lifting my dress to be tea length (which I guess I consider a couple inches above my ankles) and i was so bummed i hadn't had my dress tailored to that length! i think it's so flattering, and marcia's dress was my favorite of the night too!

  2. Maybe from the age old idea that we durst not excite the men fold by exposing our demure ankles. Seeing such sights would only drive them into a veritable frenzy.

  6. I love tea length wedding dresses. My original wedding plans involved a tea length dress. I think that people are surprised because the general stereotype is that all when want huge, fluffy, bright white wedding gowns. I can't wait to see pictures from your wedding! You've come up with so many great ideas.

  8. I'm such a klutz, I can just picture myself tripping down the aisle on a floor-length dress! Raising it just a few inches will help my balance & probably save me from going flat on my face!

  9. That second one is PERFECT and EXACTLY what I've been looking for! I don't think it's odd to wear tea length at all! I think it works- ESP when you're very short!

  10. Sorry for double posting! I'm not super familiar with the Brides.com website and I can't seem to find that second dress! Do you know who it is by (maybe a model # too?)

    Thanks!

  12. I'm wearing a tea length dress to my wedding too! It's the Vineyard Collection "Taylor"... you can find it on the Priscilla of Boston website. I love how it's so comfortable and that I won't be lugging a train around all night. And of course I'm wearing some fabulous purple Michael Kors shoes to complete the look! Kudos to you for choosing a short dress!!! I'm sure you'll stunning :)

  15. I LOVE the length, too! If there's anything I'd do over...it's buy a t-length dress!

  16. I love tea length gowns! If we weren't getting married in a huge catholic church, I would be wearing my grandmothers tea length gown. Unfortunately I needed something a bit more formal, so I went with a full length gown. But if your wedding fits with a tea length dress, do it!

  17. I am wearing a tea length gown and though some persons-of-a-different-generation look surprised at such a revolutionary thought, all of my friends comment that a retro look is so beautiful and will look good in the photos. I love the classic looks and hope my grandchildren do, too.

  18. We had a lunchtime summer garden wedding on my parents' property & I loved my tea length wedding gown. It was fresh & romantic - & extremely comfortable to wear. If I knew how to post some pictures I would! Your wedding is all about being you & wearing something that defines your personality and suits the occasion. Enjoy!
