a reader recently asked if i knew where to find the vintage stamps i posted about below. to be honest, i was thinking about looking through my dad's collection until i realized he had gotten rid of them years ago! boo!
i did a search on ebay and found tons of options but i'm a person who likes to see things before i buy ... so i'm opening the floor on this question ... does anyone know of actual shops to check out when looking for vintage stamps?
i was thinking about local stamp collector conventions but then again, i haven't seen any advertised ... if you know of anything, please share! :o)
reader question.

ReplyDeleteThis place is in NYC, and I think they have a store front. I used their catalog, to figure out which stamps I wanted, then searched for them on Ebay, since the prices at most of the stamp places seemed high to me. If you go the Ebay route, watch out for the shipping charges. I recommend buying multiple sheets from one seller, since most of them will combine shipping for multiple purchases. Hope that helps!
Ebay isn't too bad if you make sure to buy from the same person and contact them before the auction ends to request or ask if they offer reduced shipping, like fetefelice said.
ReplyDeleteFor a storefront, asking around your town or area would be a good way. I know my hometown used to have a sports memorabilia store where baseball cards were sold/traded, etc. {Do little boys even collect baseball cards anymore?} Surely there are some stamp type stores like that out there.
A local hobby shop might have stamps
ReplyDeleteHere's a post from frolic on how to find them on ebay. I bought a ton and they were in great shape so I wouldn't worry about not seeing them first.

If you live in SF, there's a stamp collecting store in the Financial District close to Chinatown.
ReplyDeleteI bought all of mine on ebay and they are fabulous. it's just really important to buy a variety and buy from sellers with good feedback. i didn't run into any issues. i'll be blogging about it soon!
ReplyDeleteI just went googled "coin & stamp" for my area in Google Maps and then went to the local place! They had TONS of different kind so I bought a bunch.
