i've thought about videography off and on. it's just not a must-have for me. i think j and i would watch the video once or twice, catch a few special things we missed (which would be cool) and then put the dvd away, to gather dust with the rest. i mean, are there really couples who watch their video more than a few times a year? maybe i just don't get it.

if we do decide on it, i'd love to rent a handheld 8mm video camera and have a good family friend tape the ceremony and some of the reception. i've always loved that grainy, old-school aesthetic.

has anyone done this? how did it turn out??? and where the heck do you look to rent these little guys? i haven't been having much luck looking around ...

  2. Thoughts on videography-I think it is so worth it for anyone who may not be able to attend your wedding and experience the celebration first hand...especially those people who are not around yet...your kids (if you are planning on having them) or nieces, nephews, etc. I'm sure they would love to see this magical chapter of your love story.

My thoughts were much the same as yours on the videography. We simply could not afford it and it was not high on the priority list- at least professional videography. We instead had a good friend record everything and at the end of it all he sent us an amazing video that he had edited, added music to, and did some grainy effects (obviously not a professional term!). What was great is that he also gave us a tape of ALL of the footage in case I ever feel inspired to edit it in my own way- I think not! It was a very special gift and we watched it on our first anniversary. I always tell my brides that if it is in the budget, go for it, but if it is not, have a special friend do it for you. They will always have a special place in your wedding memories. As for watching it again, probably not until our 10th anniversary or when our kids want to see it. I don't think my husband could sit through it one more time (guys!).
