getting personal.

Nov 18, 2007

all of the sudden, i'm on a personalization kick ... i think i've been reading too many martha stewart weddings mags.

i never gave much thought to who would be officiating our wedding, but recently i started thinking how much i reaaaaaaally don't want a near-stranger to be marrying us. i started to think how cool it would be to have one of our parents get an officiant license and marry us. j became pretty excited about it, too. does anyone know how hard it is to receive an officiant license? for some reason, i was under the impression that it was pretty simple ... then again, i don't know where i got that idea.

here's my other personalization idea:

NUTS! i found these on coco + kelley. they're silver-coated walnuts. we would substitute buckeye nuts, to symbolize our shared ohio heritage and j's family's passion for OSU. i thought these would be a bit more tasteful than having a big brutus mascot hanging around, scaring the (non-sports fan) guests. i also think these will go well with the autumn theme. i was thinking about putting them in tall glass containers or wrapping a few in cellophane with a personalized note and using them as favors -- except that i don't know if they're edible and if they are, the silver paint would probably make them non-edible so maybe the favor idea is not such a good one. :-/

  1. Having a family member marry you is a really nice touch. Depending on your state's laws, just call the county clerk's office, a notary may be enough to legally marry you. Becoming a notary is a very simple process!

"Mississippi is rather lax by U.S. standards in terms of in who can perform your wedding ceremony. Civil ceremonies can be carried out by either a judge, justice of the peace or court clerk who has legal authority to perform marriages, or by a person who has been given temporary authority by a judge or court clerk to conduct the ceremony. Whomever you hire to lead you down the path to marital bliss, they should file the marriage certificate within a few days of the wedding and you will be sent a certified copy within a few weeks."

    Hope this helps!

  4. I love the touch of the nuts. I once had a groom that was a die-hard buckeye fan- and our compromise with the wedding was including them in the bouts, bouquets, and centerpieces.. it was a really nice touch- (think hurricane vases with a thick layer of nuts at the base, surrounded in a wreath of fall leaves- lining the aisle)... good luck!

As for the officient, we are having a family member marry us- check into the state regulations for the specific process (sometimes it is looked down upon for notories to marry their immediate family- thus you may need to settle for an extended family member or close friend)...

  5. I did not realize you were Buckeye fans. I graduated from OSU in 1999. This is definitely a very cool, unique idea.
