everyone knows a trip to the florist is typically pricey. yet, the more i look at wedding flowers and the price tags that are attached, the more i want to find an alternative ... that's cheaper. it seems that whenever the word 'wedding' is attached to something, vendors maintain the right to inflate the price as they see fit.
i'm looking for very homogenous bouquets (white peonies, white tulips, yellow mums and a few others) and i started wondering if i could pick up a few bouquets at a local market ... they typically have nice, fresh bunches of flowers that are in season. and i think if you cut the stems fairly short and tied them together with some ribbon, they'd look fine.
i don't know - does anyone do this?

I love flowers and everything that they entail (I believe that this is a pre-req of becomming an event designer)... thus I do urge brides to find a floral budget that is comfortable for them... thus if you feel that a DIY bouquet will allow for you to splurge in other parts of the wedding that are more important then by all means- break out the shears and give it a go...should you decide to go the DIY route... I urge you to try out a few bouquets a few weeks before the wedding to ensure your comfort with floral design. Also, make sure that you check with your supplier to ensure that the varieties that you are looking for will be available on the date of your wedding.... also- just a few tips for the day-of...
ReplyDeletecut the stems at an angle and get them in water IMMEDIATELY! Add flower food to keep them beautiful.Keep it cool... keep the tulips tightly bound together to ensure that htey do not open too early... if you have trouble with the peonies, add hot water and they should bloom.....
all floral design for the bouquet should be done on the day-of... so it may be a good idea to have someone with you on the trial runs of the bouquet so that they may be in charge of arranging the flowers for the day of...
Lastly- when arranging the flowers... it is easiest for beginners to have a small vase on hand. Arrange the flowers in the vase first, then pick the entire bouquet up out of the vase and hand-tie...
hope this helps.
I just did all my flower and bouquets DIY for my wedding. I had a flower budget, made some sketches of the different arrangements I would need, bought from a few different online places and have 4 of my closest friends help me the day before assembling them.
ReplyDeleteIt was really easy and fun, It made me appreciate my flowers so much more. I know I saved money doing it this way. Really how can you go wrong on flowers...they are already beautiful.
As cheap as their site looks, I would recommend http://www.theflowerexchange.com/
I ordered from 5 different places, and their flowers were packaged and held up the best. Let me know if you want some more tips.
